When Nick and I started dating, we never would have thought we’d be where we are right now. We took our relationship very light headed and went with the flow the entire time… probably why it works so well. So when it came to move in together we didn’t even think twice, it just felt natural. We joked about it while being in a restaurant and the next day we were looking for places. Here is our little home.
My old apartment was great, very modern, washer/dryer in suite (which is rare in Toronto) and a killer view… what didn’t we lived there together you’re gonna ask? Well on top of paying a very expensive rent, there was no privacy at all.
The so considered one bedroom was in reality a big bachelor where the bedroom was stuck between sliding doors and no window. Don’t get me wrong. I loved living there, it was perfect for one person but definitely not for a couple.
It took us quite a while to find a place but I believe everything happens for a reason and you just have to trust it will work out. When we visited this appartment, penthouse floor, refurbished with lots of space, we knew that was it. Yes the design is older than my fancy condo but it did not matter.
I had some furnitures but the new place being bigger we needed to go shopping. I love Ikea. I think the quality is great and you have some awesome designs, especially for the price.
We sticked with white and grey which is fairly neutral. It was important for me that Nick felt at home and comfortable in the decor because it was becoming his home too.
I’m a decor freak. I like the mix of cozy and stylish so it was important that everything was blending in together really well.
I’m not gonna lie, it was way harder to get the decor of that place right. I ended up selling some of my furnitures cause they were disrupting the flow of the place. We eventually went back to Ikea but moving things around and creating a home is so much fun.
If you’re wondering what is my favourite piece, there it is. I wanted something cute for the corner but also needed some more storage (cause who doesn’t?). This furry stool was perfect. I found this mirror tray, added some decor on top of it and voila!
I hope you like the place. If you’re thinking of moving in with your significant other DO IT! Everybody will try to convince you it’s a big step but it doesn’t have to be. It wasn’t for us. Yes it will change the dynamiq of the relationship but like everything in life you gotta have fun.
