Raufarhólshellir Lava Tunnel
It’s one of the longest Lava Tunnel in Iceland. If you’re a volcano freak like I am you’re gonna love this. You used to be able to explore it on your own but due to so many people being disrespectful on site, you now have a guide walking you through it. They will turn off the lights at some point and you’ll experience what real pitch black is… It’s 75$ and you get to explore for an hour, pricey but definitely worth it!
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
The fall is 60m tall and you can literally walk behind it, into a small cave, it’s the coolest thing. This is by far the most beautiful waterfall I’ve ever seen. The view you’ll get once you’re behind is mind blowing. It really makes you realize how powerful nature is. Justin Bieber‘s fan, this is one of the location you can spot in his music video “I’ll show you”.
Skogafoss Waterfall
This one also drops 60m but is 25m wide. There’re stairs for you to walk all the way to the top of the waterfall and you can also walk as close to it as you’d like at the bottom of it. Good luck with that though, the mist and wind is so strong that if you go there during the cold season you probably won’t last long. We for sure didn’t.
Sólheimasandur Plane Crash
This one was definitely the challenge of our trip. You have to park your car and walk for about an hour to get to it. It ain’t too bad, except we had to do it with heavy rain and wind, not fun but once you’re there it’s definitely worth it. I’ve personally never seen a plane this way before. You can walk inside, around and if you dare, climb on top of it. The scenery you get makes it even more dramatic. I’d recommend to chose a nice day to do it but if you don’t have a choice, nothing waterproof clothes can’t handle.

Great post! I’ve never been to Iceland but I really want to go one day! Hiring a camping van seems like a good way to do it and you have a lot more freedom too! <3
Hi Bea!
I hope you can go soon, this country blew my mind! And exactly, everything is pretty far so it would have been too much of a hustle otherwise. What was your favourite country to visit?
Nice one! Renting a camper van must be fun 🙂 We were in Iceland when it was still relatively warm, so we were camping in the tent, those campsites are very handy and picturesque!
Oh my, it was! We’re so glad we didn’t camp cause it was raining a lot but that’s awesome you were able to!
What was your favourite part about Iceland? Definitely the waterfall for me
